It was when I began lingering over the cucumbers at Bi-Rite that I realized it was time to start dating again.
It’s not like I was doing anything outrageous—not actually fondling the cucumbers, for example. And if I’d actually been looking for something a little more realistic, I would have been eyeing the zucchini. Or maybe those thrillingly purple Asian eggplants. But, frankly, I’ve never cared for eggplant, and the only way I like zucchini is when it’s chopped up and sautéed, which wasn’t really what I had in mind.
