What Do You Remember Most About Valentine's Day? 2009/02/11 19:50 Karma: 7
We've all had Valentine's Days we remember more than others...could be a memory from elementary school when little Billy sent you a Will You Be My Valentine? card. Maybe that crazy single girlfriend's party a few years back. Or, maybe a romantic Valentine's Day proposal.

What's your favorite?

I'll go first, but I won't even put my name in the kitty!

I LOVED making my valentine box in elementary school. Was there anything more fun than playing with shoe boxes, crepe and construction paper, picking our your Valentine's Day cards, and dreaming of getting a V-Day greeting from the boy/girl you had a crush on??

I don't think so...

My most memorable Valentine's Day was years ago when about 12 of my single friends and I met for dinner at a restaurant. After having some appetizers and a few drinks we decided to write personal ads for each other. This was before the Match.com and online dating era. Each of us wrote a personal ad for every person. By dessert we each had our stack and read them out loud. It was a great way to get to know what other's thought about me and I did end up posting the ad, which read: "Exotically attractive professional woman, loves philosophical novels, runs marathons and teaches salsa. Interested in learning how to play pool and golf". I got so many replies I had to cancel the ad. Met some great guys, some of whom are still my friends, and some who ended up dating my single girlfriends who I thought would be more compatible with them, including one couple who got married!

The sacks, of course! In elementary school, we always took white lunch sacks and decorated them with hearts cut from red or pink paper doilies and construction paper, then added lots of glitter for good measure. I got high on those little pots of rubber cement with the built in brushes!

We did the white sacks too! I was always nervous that mine would be empty... It never was though. :)

The first Valentine's Day I can remember, I had just skipped first grade, and was still somewhat intimidated to be with the "big kids". To make matters worse, the teacher had a big box on her desk where she pulled out the valentines one at a time and called out the name on it for the person to take the long walk up to the front of the room to claim it. I was terrified that I wouldn't receive any valentines and the whole class would know it. Well, as luck had it, there was a little boy in my new class who had a crush on me, absolutely flooding the box with valentines for me. Although I unfortunately didn't return the sentiment, at least I was saved the social disgrace of not being deemed valentine worthy!
