I am about to turn 50 and never thought I'd be single at this age. As far as I can tell at the moment, Prince Charming is nowhere to be seen :(.

I'm starting to ask myself what it means to be single and having to build some sort of financial security singlehandedly. Somehow never thought I'd have to do that by myself, seems like it would be so much easier with a spouse or partner building with me.

I'm not talking just putting money in mutual funds or something (that's important too) but maybe acquiring real estate or some way to make money on the side.

How can I learn to do that?

There are so many great teachers out there. Suze Orman specializes in helping women (has a tv show and many books) and I just took a great class at my church...Financial Peace University. Information from these two sources opened my eyes in so many ways. My husband and I are trying to become completely debt free which then frees up money to invest in real estate, stocks, etc. We're also taking a hard look at where our money goes. I realized that buying a coffee drink every day cost me more than $1,200 a year!

Good luck with the investments. Both these sources cover stocks and real estate.

And, of course, money that goes to pay debt can't be invested, duh! I should check Suze out, of course I've heard of her but haven't really gotten serious.
