I agree with everything you are saying. I think having our own spaces and having one communal place for me would be ideal. I too do not want to give up the idea of a man coming into my life, finally:) I have h ope this will all work out for our highest best. I ran an article on this topic on my site last week and got a couple of interesting suggestions, which appealed to me a bit more than the whole community idea. One of my readers related almost buying a triplex with two women friends. They ended up walking away from the deal because of certain legal issues they could not resolve. That triplex idea appeals to me a great deal. The perfect solution of together but separate!

In response to the legal issues raised by that reader, my mother, a very young 70+ wondered why friends couldn't just rent contiguous units. She reminded us that home ownership isn't always the best solution. As we age, it might be nice to have someone else taking care of all the stuff homeownership brings with it.

I like that idea too, although I would again prefer the triplex or quadraplex over units in an apartment building. Finding a triplex with all the units available might be tricky but maybe if you could get in on the ground floor of a new one?
