Hi Ms. CatSunshine!

Welcome to WomenBloom! I LOVE the idea of living in community and I can tell you from talking to a lot of middle-age women, that the idea really resonates with a lot of us.

I'm going to let people know through the newsletter and Facebook that we have a WomenBloomer interested in this topic and see if we can't get some of you talking about it.

Also, if you haven't found the U.S. Co-housing Association website, it's full of good information on this:

http://www.cohousing.org

I'm so glad you found us, I hope you'll visit often!

Allison

Hi Cat. I'm a little ambivalent on this one. On the one hand I like the idea of communal living. One of Allison's respondees to her post about this on Facebook said something about a community with separate housing but where the women could help each other, enabling everyone to live independently a little longer. That idea appeals to me. I live alone and have had two bad falls in the last two years, both of which scared me just a bit in that they got me thinking about a lot of "what if's".

On the other hand, female communities smack a bit too much of "no men". If you hadn't given up on having a man in your life and you moved into a women's community, I see a lot fewer opportunities to meet men. I also wonder about things like being subtly shunned if a man showed up at your house. I'd like to think we're all too old for that sort of thing but I'm not sure!

I really do see a place for this sort of thing as we tend to live longer and, heaven knows, there's a lot of us out there!

Allison,
Thanks for your response. I am still working this out for myself, Wome living in Community. I want to make it clear, I am not a Lesbian, some people think this is clearly a Lesbian community. For me, it's not. If you want to pursue this there is a wonderful website called, Women living in Community. Go there and read all the info.

Laurel,
There is a great website, "women living in community". I found it helpful to help me define what kind of living I want.
