Raw. Edgy. Wry. Funny. Our member, Amy Ferris, is all those things in this excerpt from her almost released new book, Marrying George Clooney – Confessions From A Midlife Crisis. Let’s face it, if you don’t have a sense of humor about menopause, well...I don’t know how else you get through it. Note to Mother Nature: ha. ha.
If you’ve ever struggled with emotions, weight gain, hot flashes, inability to suppress saying what you REALLY think, you’ll enjoy Amy’s take on The Change. And I’m pretty sure George Clooney comes in somewhere. Can’t go wrong with that!
Ah, the blessings, trials, worries, and joys of life as a mother. Our member, Linda O’Connell, describes the 70s and her 20s as the best of times, worst of times, filled with worries about her kids, her marriage and herself.
But she managed to find her way through the 70s with support from her friends and beginning a journey of self-discovery. From her current vantage point, she realizes it was just life being lived. That there was more time than she thought for smelling the roses along the way. Of course, that realization is one of the perks of reaching midlife!
This poem speaks to me in ways I can hardly articulate. Our member, Amy Karsmizki, somehow captures deep yearnings, or maybe they are airy daydreams, and then paints images of them so well, you feel you are there in that coffee shop, or laying in tousled sheets listening to the rain fall down.
Singer songwriter, Lucinda Williams, always paints pictures with words that I can see and feel so intensely. Amy’s poem has the same effect on me, maybe she should write lyrics for songs! Enjoy!
