Joan Anderson, an author and journalist, shares her insights and self-discoveries revealed during a year of living alone in a cottage on Cape Cod. Her two sons grown, in a stagnant marriage, she sadly refused to accompany her husband when he accepted a job offer across country. The resulting struggles of living by herself, supporting herself financially, and making new friendships on her own, helped her emerge, rather like a phoenix from the ashes, with a strong, new sense of self.
