My Midlife Reinvention: Why Isn't It Going The Way I Want?
Midlife reinvention is the thing most on our minds according to what I hear from women in their midyears. Taking a midlife leap into something new and unknown means sometimes things will go according to plan and sometimes not.
Our member, Grace N, has asked: What do I do when my reinvention isn’t going well?
Our expert, Lin Scheib, is a life coach who helps her clients deal with this issue. And, we’ve asked some wise WomenBloom members to weigh in as well. We have some great food for thought.
Is there a woman among us who hasn’t pushed herself too far at one time or another to be a perfect mother, employee, spouse, volunteer, and a million other roles? All at the same time? Somehow we women think we have to be all things to all people, all the time.
Our member, Jan Lundy, suggests that maybe 2009 is the year we start being more kind to ourselves. That we 'befriend' and treat ourselves as we would a good friend. Radical, concept don't you think? Even if you only adopt two or three of her suggestions, you're bound to feel better and be better to those around you.
This time of year most of us have given thought to what we’d like to do differently or accomplish in the coming year. Often our resolutions include things like more money, or exercising more. But are you ready to receive what you’re asking for? Do you believe you ‘deserve’ it?
Barbara Laporte is a career management expert who specializes in career/life transition for midlife adults. She often uses Treasure Mapping as a visual manifestation process for her clients. However, she makes the point in this article that if you aren’t ready to receive gifts (from others and from the Universe) gratefully and gracefully, what you are wanting to manifest might be a long time coming!
