Coping With Children Leaving the Home

ImageRecently I have been faced with the reality of my oldest son preparing to graduate highschool, leave for a few weeks to visit a friend in Germany, and upon returning he is contemplating joining the Military.  I still have my youngest son at home who will be fourteen this summer, but having a child prepare to leave the home in any case can be overwhelmingly saddening.   I don’t think I am suffering from empty nest syndrome just yet because I will still have my youngest son at home.  But when I learned more about empty nest syndrome this is what I found.  “Empty nest syndrome refers to the feelings of sadness, grief, depression, loneliness, emptiness and loss when children grow up, leave for college, get married, or leave home to live on their own. ‘Empty-nesters’ can either be mothers or fathers, but mothers are primarily the ones who have difficulty dealing with or coping with an empty nest when children begin leaving home to live their lives as adults.”  So, maybe I am experiencing those feelings mentioned above associated with this phenomenon.

Regardless of the relationship, be it friendship or romance or relationships within a family, the elements of trust, respect, sharing and understanding of each other’s emotions play a decisive role in shaping a relationship.

ImageDon’t most of us think men can be frustrating creatures?  We have to nag them to get them to do stuff, they are like deer in the headlights when we want to ‘talk’, and they are seemingly oblivious to all the stuff around the house that needs to be done!  How is that possible??   Hmmph!  And they think WE are mysterious.

Well, Gigi Sage, our resident Man Whisperer, knows a lot about what makes men tick.  And a lot of it seems counterintuitive at first glance.  But, I assure you it’s not.  She just believes that men and women have different natures and the secret to having the relationship you want is understanding male nature and letting it work for you.
